Partnerships
The Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT)
located at City College assists manufacturers in a two-county region to modernize their production technologies to enhance competitiveness. For more information on CACT, call (619) 388-3080 or email. The CACT also operates a technology incubator where up to 20 start-up research and development and manufacturing companies are housed on the City College campus. The companies are provided affordable space administrative support, business development and technical training. Industry Advisory Committees
The district tries to keep abreast of the latest trends and techniques in business and industry so our students can be well prepared to enter the workforce. Helping advise the district are concerned members of these many occupational areas. Active, interested committee members perform a valuable service to the community and the community college district. The San Diego Career Center is a model one-stop career center providing unemployed San Diegans with job training, retraining, placement assistance and social services by the center partners, which include the SDCCD, California Employment Development Department, San Diego Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Private Industry Council and County of San Diego Department of Social Services. The SDCCD operates through its three colleges and continuing education an expanding international education program, which currently conducts international development and exchange activities in Mexico. With grants from the Ford Foundation and funding from the Mexican government, SDCCD faculty have been training professors from Mexico's technical institutes in advanced technology. Miramar College's Transportation and Energy Technology program prepares skilled technicians who can maintain and repair advanced transportation vehicles and systems, including diesel technology, compressed natural gas vehicles, electric and other alternative fuels.
